After a summer of
upheaval, which
saw so many
players leave the
club and 17 new faces (so far) arrive
at the Checkatrade.com Stadium,
the big question this season is will
the Red Devils be able to mount a
serious challenge to promotion from
League One?

After the
disappointment of
the World Cup, at
least from an English perspective (why
did we expect anything else?!) no
one could argue it’s been a tough pre
season for the Seagulls.
Is it me or has there been a lack of the
usual eager anticipation and fervour that
usually builds during July and August - a
hang over from Brazil perhaps? Well, at
least we didn’t lose 7-1 to Germany!
Enter a new manager then in the form of
Liverpool legend, Sami Hyppia - another
exciting and bold move from our Poker
playing chairman Tony Bloom with the
big Finn replacing Oscar Garcia. BUT,
realistically, what are our chances this
season? The consensus of the level of
opinion seems to be mid table optimism.
The departure of Player of the Season,
Matt Upson (why is it the one that always
wins the award, then leaves – who can
forget, Andrew Whing, Elliott Bennett and
Andrew Crofts in recent years, though
Crofty has seen the error of the ways and
returned; great to see him back after a
long injury)…and then saying goodbye
to striker Leo Ulloa for a record £8million,
had left an interesting taste in the mouth
of many supporters. Add to that the
departure of Will Buckley to Sunderland
and panic was starting to set in with
