Venice has an overwhelming sense of culture which swallows you up 68 folk spilling out clutching large glasses of red wine. This bar in particular has live music and the walls are covered in scribes of customers. Add your own or sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Venice also appeals to any fashionistas out there with plenty of shops housing great Italian clothing. One word of advice though, when you see it, buy it. You’ll never find the same shop again! On our final full day we decided to pay a visit to the street markets where most of the locals go to buy their produce. I really love a food market and so this was heaven for me. There were stalls full of the weird and wonderful, including fish (some of which were still alive), meat and vegetables. Many stalls sell Italian spices so we bought a few to bring home to sample. We couldn’t leave Venice without also sampling the amazing Italian Gelato. There were endless choices of flavours including certain chocolate bars which most people will recognise. I don’t think we spoke for a good half an hour as we were too busy scoffing them down. The whole experience of Venice was unforgettable. We sampled the best seafood pastas, the best pizzas, the best ice cream and the best views. We bought lots back home with us, including a ton of memories which will ensure I never forget my birthday. Would I go back? I’m not one for going back to the same place twice, but I would absolutely love to go during the masquerade festival as I imagine the whole city comes alive. Venice definitely has a little place in my heart. By Tia Clarke
