Crawley Town FC
Since new Manager,
Mark Yates’s arrival,
the Red Devils have
brought in 9 new
signings as they
look at starting life
in League 2.
14 players used the
Exit sign on the way out of the
Checkatrade.com Stadium following last
season’s relegation from League One,
including Ryan Dickson to Yeovil Town,
keeper Brian Jensen to Mansfield Town,
Joe Walsh to MK Dons and Captain
Josh Simpson who decided to end
his association with Crawley and join
Plymouth Argyle …..Interesting that 3 out
of those 4 clubs are also in League 2 and
will be visitors to Sussex over the course
of the season!
Joining the Red’s renaissance are striker,
Lee Barnard (from Southend United),
defender Liam Donnelly (on loan from
Fulham), defender Joe McNerney (from
Woking), midfielders Simon Walton,
Jon Ashton and Roarie Deacon (all from
Stevenage), goalkeeper Callum Preston
from Birmingham, midfielder Luke Rooney
(from Ebbsfleet Utd), and Defender,
Christian Scales from Crystal Palace.
Last season’s top marksman, Izale
McLeod has joined Notts County after
making it clear that he wanted to leave.
Pre season saw 3 wins out of 6,
the highlight being the defeat of
Championship side Reading.
The opening day of the League two
season saw the Reds maintain their
enviable record of having never lost
an opening day fixture in the Football
League, with a 1-1 draw at Oxford United,
courtesy of a Gwion Edwards header.
Sadly that was followed up by a 2-1
defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon, but
this was followed with consecutive 0-0
draws with Portsmouth and Wycombe,
with a 3-0 win away at Cambridge in
between. With future matches against
Luton, Leyton Orient, Stevenage and
Barnet to look forward to, I’ve already
cleared some of the dates with my
significant other.………It’s going to be a
cracking season and most of the home
games are when Brighton are away, so I
suggest you do likewise and come along
to watch the fun.
