This is my second year attending the "infamous" Dam Run on Lake Mohave. The event had been one that for the last ten years I kept saying "I'm going to do that this year" only to have life get in the way, and a promise from me to "do it next year." Last year at the last minute I was going to flake yet again, when the Bulger's (Brad and Tom) said to me "Dave get in the car and get up here." I did a short write up in a thread talking about the day, but what sticks out the most was seeing Campbell Carl early that first morning and asking him about boating on Lake Mohave, his response was confident to say the least when he replied "I'll let my lake speak for itself."

I have been boating on the Colorado River my entire life, and have hit a few different spots along the way, but none had ever opened my eyes like that first Dam Run. The scenery is ever changing, and as you pass different types of landscapes each is as beautiful as the last in their own way. I'm happy to report seeing it for the second time it was even better then the first! This is the story of our 2014 Dam Run.

A lot of guys will arrive at Katherine's Landing or Laughlin on Friday night to get ready for the early morning start on Saturday morning. With a recent new arrival to our family leaving for two days isn't really an option. It was probably better that way, because I look at Laughlin just like a miniature Vegas and if we were there on Friday night, the odds of us making the meet up in the morning would be seriously decreased anyways after a night of gambling and debauchery.

Even though I was up late on the Friday before, I was very excited about our impending trip, this was no ordinary Dam Run this was also Campbell Carl's 60th Birthday weekend! We had gone shopping the night before, and began preparations for a feast for Carl and his friends, and were prepared to feed approximately forty people armed with four Large tri tips, ten pounds of chicken, an infamous river dish called "Ward's Beans", Cole slaw and a host of other related items to go with it. I was up at Six O Clock sharp loading coolers, and packing everything necessary for our trip on the water. How I forgot the beer is still beyond me.

We headed straight to Carl's to meet up and offload the food into his refrigerators before heading to Katherine's which is right next door. We arrived at Katherine's and I loaded up with an 18 pack of Coors Light, a twelve pack of ShockTop for Stacy, a new pair of Bomber sun glasses, and some ice. When the lady at the cashier rang it up, my initial thought was "I wonder if they offer financing programs." Eighty something bucks later we were heading down to load up Satellite Mike's Hallett 240 with our gear and start our adventure.
