Interior Design Environment Architectures BA ( Hons )
Interior Design Environment Architectures is the design , rehabilitation and extension of existing buildings and spaces . This course engages with interiors and pushes the boundaries of how we can make and re-make environments whilst considering the experience of the user .
Futures Interior Design Environment Architectures graduates often go on to design the rehabilitation and extension of existing buildings , or the creation of new built environments . You could find yourself working in architectural and urban consultancy , workplace design , housing research , and retail design or community development .
The Course This course is a fusion of architecture and interior design . It deals specifically with public and private commercial spaces within an urban environment . You will study the design and rehabilitation of buildings , the technical aspects of construction , and how architecture relates to the notions of live , work and relax .
You will develop your skills through a mixture of problem-based learning , design studio tutoring , workshops and traditional teaching . To prepare you for the profession , we put an emphasis on cross-disciplinary practice and live competition briefs . Teaching staff and visiting professionals bring further industry perspectives to the course .
Year One You will build skills in communication and representation , construction and dual use environment . Alongside this , you will begin to think about your own design process and angles on problems of the built environment . We encourage you to start thinking about your contextual studies research .
Year Two You will gain greater understanding of urban history and theory , urban design , and design for commercial and retail environments , as well as rehabilitation . This will allow you to enhance your practice and develop your approach to your design work . We set briefs that encourage you to collaborate with other students and create work as part of a design team .
Year Three You will bring your learning together in a final major project , where you will investigate and make architectural design decisions . Alongside this , you will carry out a negotiated project in the form of a live brief . We ask you to show your contextual studies research and thinking in a long form dissertation . You will leave with a portfolio that shows your skills in interior design with a strong emphasis on dual-use environments that considers the experience of the user , materiality , structure and form , and in areas of entry-level architecture .
Now prescribed by the Architects Registration Board for Part 1 of the 3 Part architecture qualification .
