Games Design BA (Hons)*
This course delivers creative
engagement across the sprawling
and accelerating array of platforms,
contexts and social arenas.
This course will see you creating
games and interactive experiences
across these, scripting game
architectures and employing
appropriate programming tools.
The Course
Emphasis is placed on professional
industry-standard practice through
project work and interdisciplinary
collaborations. You will be encouraged
to develop your individual creative
mindsets and skillsets to identify
where your particular talent can
be harnessed within the industry.
As games continue to reach
across an ever-increasing spectrum
of potential applications, students
will immerse themselves with
sufficient breadth and depth in their
studies to ensure the development
of industry- ready skills.
This course will provide its graduates
with the expertise and knowledge
that will enable them to create
computer games and interactive
experiences, using contemporary
game engines that support traditional
console applications alongside the
emerging fields of mobile, virtual,
augmented and online application
development.

Music and Sound Production BA (Hons)*
Year One
Students are introduced to the
fundamentals of games programming,
architecture and the relevant media
skills essential for games development.
Throughout the year, students learn
the practices and conventions of
industry protocols alongside personal
development attributes required for
success while at university and in the
world of work.
Year Two
Progressing from the essential
foundations of games design, the
focus in Year 2 moves towards the
specific technical skills necessary for
game development across the range
of creative possibilities. Here students
will begin growing into their desired
specialism – facilitated by a range
of elective pathways that will see
collaboration with students and
professionals from related and
other academic disciplines.
Year Three
Students in their final year are
given the opportunity to undertake
a significant and sustained individual
development project. This will pull
together all the previous experience
strands of your study, and provide
the tailoring of a portfolio of work
that will act as your professional
calling card into the industry.

Music and Sound Production is the
creation and manipulation of music
and sound for film, games, television
and diverse digital applications.
The course is for aspiring sound
designers, musicians and composers
who wish to develop their sound and
music production skills and apply
them in a wide range of careers in
the creative industries.
Futures
Sound designers, musicians and
composers will develop specialisms
which could include composition,
production, sound engineering, song-
writing and creating soundtracks for
film, television and games.
The Course
The course is practically focused and
will enable you to work creatively with
sound and music in direct preparation
for work in the creative industries.
You will develop knowledge and the
mindsets and skillsets to support your
own creativity, including critical
listening, editing, arranging, composing,
producing, technical and storytelling
skills. Students gain an understanding
of how sound and music intersect
with moving image (film, games and
television) and are encouraged to apply
the technical and creative aspects of
sound and music production in a
project-based learning environment.
Collaboration is at the heart of the
course and students will undertake
project briefs with other students to
realise projects as part of a team.
Teaching staff and visiting professionals
bring a strong industry perspective
throughout the course.

Year One
You will build skills in sound and
music production, studio and location
recording, electronic arrangement,
composition, editing and post-
production. You will begin to think
about your own music composition
and sound design, building
confidence by working to set briefs.
You will also gain a fundamental
knowledge of the industry and the
varied opportunities for work you
will be aiming for. We encourage
you to start thinking about your
contextual studies research.
Year Two
You will gain a greater understanding
of equipment and software and think
about the specialist areas of music
composition and sound design in which
they are used. This will allow you to
enhance your practice and develop
your approach based on standard
industry workflows. You will engage
in creative briefs that encourage you
to collaborate with other students
and create work as part of a team.
Year Three
You will bring your learning
together in a final portfolio of skills.
Alongside this, you will complete
a self-initiated project. We ask you
to show your contextual studies
research and thinking in a long form
dissertation. The final portfolio will
act as a showreel or promotional
tool for entry into the industry.
