in areas including concept, modelling,
animation and VFX production.
Our graduates are often employed
in film and television, visual effects,
advertising, post-production, apps
and games.
The Course
This course encourages you to think
on your feet and respond to live and
self-initiated briefs to solve creative
problems. Our students are adaptive
thinkers who understand how
animation may collaborate with
other art forms.
We use a mix of practice and
theory-based learning, including
lectures, seminars, workshops,
individual tutorials and self-directed
study. You will explore the medium
using industry standard software and
will produce an assessed portfolio of
creative and professional work.
Year One
You will build fundamental skills
in the most current animation

begin to learn the art of storytelling
through the 12 animation principles,
combining creative thinking and
applied techniques. We encourage
you to start thinking about your own
reflective practice and contextual
studies research.
Year Two
You will learn more specialist
areas within animation production
including visual effects and character
performance. This will allow you to
enhance your practice and develop
an approach to your personal
creative output. We aim to set a
variety of live project briefs, some
working with partners in the charity,
health and education sectors.
Year Three
You will bring your learning together
in a final major animation project,
with the aim of pitching your skills
to other students on your course
and eventually to industry. We ask
you to show your contextual studies
research and thinking in a long
form dissertation. Finally, you will
complete a personal portfolio of
your skills ready for entry into your
chosen industry.
