“I’m Bridgit,” she says. She knows I know, but it’s still a genuine introduction, one
that doesn’t have the weight of her celebrity behind it. The day is a big production:
several trailers, top-notch catering of wax-like fruit that gets devoured by the whole
crew and reset like magic, a tent that follows her so she can quickly change outfits
midday. Mendler’s confidence is such that she doesn’t deny it’s all for her, but she
doesn’t let it go to her head either.
At the end of the shoot, we get a chance to talk. She grabs a small plate of hors
d’oeuvres, then we dive into the nitty-gritty about her music and acting.
You’ve probably heard Mendler’s career trajectory compared to that of fellow
former Disney Channel stars (yep, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez …).
And though Mendler is an actress-turned-singer who got her start on Disney’s
Good Luck Charlie, she’s an artist carving her own path — one that combines her
love of both pop and alternative music, plus her newfound appreciation for improv
and Francophilia — she’s learning French, you know, just for fun.
