NANTUCKET FRIENDSHIP PURSE, circa 1960, large
oval form with turned whalebone knobs supporting a shaped
swing handle, the oval wood plaque heavily adorned with
three whalebone whaling tools and two sperm whales, carved
whalebone two-piece latch and peg, the base signed and dated.
Height 7 ½ in. Length 12 in. Width 9 in.

309. MASSIVE JOSÉ FORMOSO REYES (1902-1980)
NANTUCKET FRIENDSHIP PURSE, circa 1960, most
probably the largest purse ever produced, oval form with turned
whalebone knobs supporting a shaped swing handle, oval wood
plaque with a half-bodied whalebone sperm whale, a carved twopiece latch with turned peg, the base signed and dated.
Height 8 ½ in. Length 14 ½ in. Width 10 ½ in.
