century, on an ebonized molded oblong base
applied with plaquette inscribed “Presented to
Cornelius Vanderbilt on the First Anniversary
of his Connection with the New York Central
Railroad”.

Note: Vanderbilt acquired control of the NYC Railroad
in 1867.

BASKET, Berlin Assay Marks, 1819-1842, maker’s
mark indistinct “C.K.”, elaborate repoussé and chased
openwork, wrought with fruiting grapevines, Bacchic
infants and acanthus, gilt inner central surface.
