214. WHALE IVORY, WOOD AND WHALEBONE WALKING STICK,
circa 1840, a finely carved whale ivory clenched fist with seldom seen space between
fingers and nails with a corrugated cuff; the tapering whalebone shaft transitions with
9 wood, metal and ivory spacers. Length 33 ¾ in.
215. WHALE IVORY AND WHALEBONE WALKING STICK, circa 1850, a
melon style ivory grip with tortoise dot inlay above turnings and panels, two tortoise
spacers on a whalebone paneled and round tapering shaft. Length 36 ¾ in.
216. WHALE IVORY AND WHALEBONE WALKING STICK, circa 1840,
with engraved silver disk and baleen, the turned ivory mushroom grip with silver
plate cap – later engraved “Caroline Myers to Fuolge Cornley, 1911” with cabochon
abalone center; the top half of the whalebone shaft carved with a twist and woven with
a string of baleen ending in a knot; the remaining round shaft tapers to a brass ferrule.
