The difference between our knit upper and other brand ’ s knit uppers is that the high abrasion material is knitted directly into the upper as opposed to having a polyurethane material molded on top of the knit .
The Medial toe area is knitted using a material called Ultra-high modulus Polyethylene . The material is currently supplied by a German company but UHMP was originally commercialized by the Dutch Chemical company DSM .
The material has very high abrasion resistanceHas very high tensile strength ( won ’ t break easily under tension ) Low elasticity ( doesn ’ t stretch ) Low moisture absorption ( won ’ t absorb sweat ) High strength to weight ratio ( 8-15 times the strength to weight ratio of steel )
Fibers are used in things like : Body armor , Vehicle armor , Climbing equipment , Fishing line , Parachutes
The material is very strong . During the manufacturing process , after the upper is knitted , the pattern is cut out using a laser instead of the traditional steel cutting die because the material dulls the steel blades more quickly than traditional materials .
