use differing approaches and cadences, driven by business needs rather than vendor dictates. Absolutely include the lines of business. Do not make updates merely an IT maintenance event, focused on mitigating risk. There is an opportunity for IT to deliver increased benefits to users, and lines of business are the partners to help IT do more for users. It may be tempting to continue IT business as usual. Some customers may view PeopleSoft as an environment that you occasionally make current, then move on to other projects for a couple of years (or more). The downside of that approach is that it will lead to a lot more work and expense over time. Furthermore, Oracle Extended Support for 9.1 ends January 2018. Most customers are current on 9.2. If you are running 9.1, you need to do something! You could get current or move to an Oracle Cloud Application. If you decide to get current, formulation of your Selective Adoption strategy should be part of your upgrade plan, not as a post-launch activity. Cloud and the PeopleSoft Cloud Architecture What options exist for PeopleSoft customers who are interested in cloud deployments? There are many options to move PeopleSoft onto the cloud. Technically, that means running some or all of your PeopleSoft environments using Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service as well as using Oracle’s Platform as a Service. Oracle PaaS has several options including database as a service, which gives scalability when needed. PaaS and IaaS help get customers to focus less on data center management, more on business innovations, acquisitions, and cost reductions. One use case is providing demo environments, such as for conferenceroom pilots to showcase and examine newly delivered capabilities. Oracle actually delivers demo environments on its Oracle Cloud Marketplace for each new PeopleSoft Update Image. Another set of use cases is to use cloud environments to generate change packages (i.e. your PeopleSoft Update Manager – PUM source), for development and testing environments, and then use Oracle Cloud to run your PeopleSoft production instances. How does the PeopleSoft Cloud Architecture (PCA) help with cloud deployment? PeopleTools deployment packages (DPKs) simplify and templatize the repeatable deployment of environments, such as temporary development and test environments. PeopleTools automates numerous historically manual steps in the lifecycle management (LCM) processes. The planned Cloud Manager solution will extend the PeopleSoft Cloud Architecture-related capabilities for cloud deployment. It will deliver additional automation and simplification to manage, create, expire, and clone instances throughout the full lifecycle. What benefits are delivered to onpremise customers by using the latest PCA-related PeopleTools capabilities? PCA is not just for cloud deployments. Our PCA-related deployment tools and processes work for cloud or on-premise environments. Organizations can look at their own data center as a private cloud in their thinking and execution. What does this look like in real life? Customers say that with PCA-related PeopleTools capabilities, projects that used to take days or weeks are taking mere hours. Those kinds of savings really add up. Process-Centric, AnalyticsDriven Innovations How is PeopleSoft becoming even more process-centric and analyticsdriven, and what might that look like to users? PeopleSoft has a long history of delivering rich features and functions for transactions. Business processes are a set of transactions. PeopleSoft has strong capabilities for automating business processes. The technical mechanism that PeopleSoft uses to automate the transactions of business processes is Activity Guides. These are now Fluid UI-enabled. Therefore, PeopleSoft delivers end-to-end process flows that bring together multiple transactions and modules, such as for periodically managing and creating business units or managing employees. The way that this works is PeopleSoft applications ask questions such as in Guided Self Service, leading to the specific set of flows and steps needed for that user for that activity. This helps people get more done, especially where PeopleSoft is tangential to doing the job at hand. In the course of doing this, people need analytics. We are going beyond merely delivering reports and supplying pivot grids, now we are displaying contextually relevant, actionable analytics within the steps of the process. Analytics show up in a sidebar we refer to as the Related Content pane. Simplified Analytics enables self-service end user generated analytics, making it easier for users to get answers they need for the task at hand – without calling IT to create a custom report. Learn More PeopleSoft is making it easier than ever to stay current and at lower, moresustainable costs. We deliver a great user interface for our end-users on mobile devices and the desktop. We enable our customers to take advantage of the Oracle Public Cloud for greater business agility and cost reduction. This is a great time to be a PeopleSoft customer. There is a lot more to come.
