Resilience is the ability to bounce back when facing challenges , the ability to adjust and adapt to adversity , maintain control and move forward . Having an awareness of the power of resilience and its application in the workplace can be key to overcoming the challenges we experience at work .
The Employee Assistance Program ; Access suggest seven tips for building resilience 5 :
1 . Remember that some things are beyond your control
Focusing on what you can control helps promote coping and resilience .
2 . Accept change is a part of life
Establishing goals and taking decisive actions can assist in adapting to changing circumstance .
3 . Move towards your goals
Develop realistic goals and move towards these by asking yourself “ What ’ s one thing I know I can do today ?”.
4 . Develop a positive self-image
Look for positive traits and view yourself positively to build your confidence .
5 . Keep things in perspective
Try to consider the stressful circumstance in a broader context and keep a long-term perspective .
6 . Maintain an optimistic outlook
Having an optimistic and hopeful outlook enables you to expect that positive things will happen .
7 . Take care of yourself
Boosting your physical wellbeing is also good for your emotional health .
No two people are the same , the rate at which we recover , the level of our personal resilience can vary but the good news is that inside us we have all that we need to make our recovery positive and to live lives which are resilient and full . The journey of a thousand miles starts with just one step – so start today and don ’ t ever be afraid to reach out for support as you journey towards your best thriving life .

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 10 OCTOBER
World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year , with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health .
Mental Health Australia is leading the campaign locally with the theme “ Do You See What I See ?” They are challenging perceptions about mental illness and encouraging everyone to look at mental health in a more positive light , to reduce stigma and make way for more people to seek the help and support they deserve .
