Wow…another wonderful experience! There is so much to gain from participating in ASBO International functions. (Terry Dean…we missed ya!) This year’s Annual Meeting and Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, provided all with the opportunity to connect with school business officials from around the world. When it comes to navigating through today and tomorrow with all the humps, bumps, and obstacles that are put in our way, those connections can provide you with support to help in smoothing out and getting over those obstacles.

This year was my 3rd Expo and I have to say, was my best yet. At this year’s Expo, I met folks from Alaska to Florida. I attended interactive work sessions, discussion groups, and seminars in Accounting, Auditing, Budgeting, Leadership, Personnel / HR to Risk Management. Through these new friendships and various sessions, I came back armed with many different tools, practices, and resources that others have had success with, or not, within school business management. There was such a large selection of activities to choose from and I found myself wanting more time to attend more activities… now how many times have you ever said that?

Besides “Strategic Planning in Light of the Affordable Care Act”, “Making School Finance Fun”, “Getting Squeezed by Your Budget? How Cooperatives Can Help”, “The Art of Administrative Mentorship”, “What to do with Negative Nancy/Negative Norman” (to name just a few), ASBO International also provides fun networking receptions in a relaxed environment that gives you the opportunity to associate on a personal level and to exchange/collect ASBO pins and it’s just fun.

The 2017 Annual Meeting & Expo is in Denver, Colorado, September 22-25. With the next fiscal year budget season right around the corner, work this in; it will benefit you and your District/Organization. ASBO International’s mission is, “To lead the profession of school business forward. Through our professional growth opportunities, programs, and services, we promote the highest standards of school business management practices. We provide a global network of support that enhances our members’ ability to collaborate and lead with a global perspective. We are dedicated to supporting school business officials and providing the resources they need to effectively use educational resources—ultimately ensuring every student has the opportunity to receive a quality education.”
