Quarterly Newsletters 2016/2017 2nd Quarter Newsletter | Page 4

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas, NMASBO and myself are grateful to all of you for your support in making our schools stronger and better and managing the public’s limited resources with the upmost proficiency and attention.

Our mission to lead the New Mexico school business profession by providing quality professional development opportunities and a network of support continues to drive us to do our very best for you, the membership. Although we are facing tough times as a state and as individual school districts, we have a great deal to be thankful for.

I am thankful that each day I am given the opportunity to make a difference with the people I work with and the people I work for. Many of us are looking at the incredible task of balancing our budgets while trying our best to not devastate the wonderful educational programs that each of our districts have worked so hard to develop. This can be looked at as a dreaded task or an amazing opportunity to make a positive impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of education for years to come. Tough times bring out the best in people and I believe the current budget cuts will make each one of us better. They help us find ways to stretch our dollars in ways we never thought possible. I realize that these cuts will impact the quality of the education we are able to offer our students, however, let’s be thankful we live in a country that provides us educational freedoms and many other freedoms that are not shared by all people. I think it is time for a real perspective on just how much we have to be thankful for, rather than how tough we each may feel we have it.

Well, I am sure that you are tired of the sermon or the pep-talk, but I am truly grateful for the opportunity that we have to get up each day, serve our communities, and be a part of a great association that is working hard on our behalf to train and develop the awesome school business professionals of our state.

During this Thanksgiving season, I hope you will share your table and your heart, and embrace your traditions and culture. I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving, good health and continued prosperity in the coming year. Thank you all for partnering with us.
