“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”

― John Bunyan

It’s a new year for schools and it’s also a new year for NMASBO’s Social Responsibility Campaign. We had a successful beginning to our campaign. Our Fiscal Year 2016 and Inaugural Campaign saw us raise a total of $2,500 and more than 50 coats in support of warm coats for children in the State of New Mexico. It is a warm feeling (pun intended) to know that we were able to join forces to make such a big difference for so many children. And we hope to have just as big an impact this Fiscal Year 2017. This year we will being supporting:

You may recall that this Social Responsibility Campaign has a special significance to NMASBO because Make-A-Wish Foundation of NM has had a personal impact on one of our Business Manager’s family. Just last year they granted a wish for Kimberly Stone’s son Eleck. Kimberly is the CFO for Capitan Municipal Schools. You can learn more about Eleck’s story by visiting the following link: http://wish.org/wishes/wish-stories/i-wish-to-be/eleck-army-ranger.

This is a fabulous opportunity for NMASBO to touch the lives of children in a deep and meaningful way. These children face challenges that most of us would shudder to imagine impacting any member of own family, and yet the bravery and passion for life they all exhibit is heart-warming. Here are just a few more stories to let you know the kind of impact we can have:

We are doing everything in our power to make the donation process as easy as possible. We intend to accept Cash, Check, and Credit Card Payments. We also plan to have a method of payment for online payments on the NMASBO Website. While we will definitely being doing this at Fall and Winter Conference, we are also working with NM PED to see if we can have our campaign be a part of Spring Budget Workshop as well. If you have any other ideas for how we can improve the collections process, please let us know.

And now the goal… The Average Cost of a Wish is $10,000. So it is our sincere hope that because this is our second year doing the Social Responsibility Campaign and because we are making the process to donate easier, that we can raise $10,000 and ensure that NMASBO can grant a wish on behalf of Make-A-Wish Foundation of NM. It’s a lofty goal, but one I believe we are quite capable of achieving. So think about what you can do on your own, with the help of your friends and family and perhaps even your District or Charter. I would be delighted to see our Social Responsibility Campaign evolve into a competition to outdo one another, individually and with the aid of our communities.
