ASBO International Annual Meeting & Expo

Kimberly Stone

If you have spent any time as a school business official in the State of New Mexico, you know how valuable your membership in NMASBO is. You have access to great trainings, list serve and networking opportunities. Imagine having that kind of access, but at a national level. ASBO International helps you become the financial leader your district needs by connecting you with a global network of school business leaders and putting the industry’s premier resources right at your fingertips.

This year, the International ASBO Annual Meeting and Expo is going to be in sunny Florida on September 21-24, 2018 at the Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, Florida.

Expenses are always a concern, and we cut in our administrative areas first, but it is vital that we are at the top of our game utilizing all the resources possible. I look at this as one of the reasons you should attend the ASBO International Expo. While in Florida you will have the opportunity to do the following:

• Dialogue with peers on topics and trends in school business.

• Expand your network and build new relationships.

• Find creative ways to increase efficiencies and reduce costs for your district.

• Build confidence to effectively communicate and negotiate in high stakes situations.

• Develop skills to budget effectively despite unknown variables.

• Discover valuable products and services for your schools and your office.

• Earn CPE credits and SFO recertification contact hours

You can view the entire list of sessions available and all logistical information here : http://asbointl.org/meetings/annual-meeting-expo.

Here are a few money saving ideas while planning your trip:

• Get together with other New Mexico School Business Officials and share a hotel room.

• Book flights early on Southwest.com.

• Stay at a hotel other than the host hotel a few blocks away and share with another

School Business Official.

• Take advantage of the free food offered throughout the conference.

• Request a fridge in your room and pick up snacks from a grocery store at a cheaper

cost than the hotel snack bar.
