2017 Fall Conference Wrap Up

Jeannie Harris

According to the positive feedback received from NMASBO members, the Fall Conference at Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces was one for the books! Keynote speaker Kent Rader was entertaining, encouraging and inspirational. His keynote as well as his breakout session were crowd favorites. The assortment of topics contained in the breakout sessions were well received, and that is because they were subjects suggested by one or more NMASBO members. We closely review each post-conference survey to learn what we are doing right, what we can improve upon and what it is that our membership wants to learn at future conferences.

Two favorite sessions were HR Legal Issues and Cash Report Overview, and there were requests for future breakouts directly related to these areas. A session on identifying predators was informational, and from it stemmed requests for more material on potential liability issues that could affect schools. NMASBO’s Mentoring Program was introduced with hopes that there will be more interest at future conferences. Along with the many learning opportunities were occasions for networking and catching up with old friends, as well as reconnecting with and renewing relationships with vendors.

Pilots use the term “task saturation” to describe having

too much to do without enough time, tools or resources to do it. That term seems to also describe the lives of school business officials. At our conferences, NMASBO hopes to provide some much needed relief to the busy world of SBOs by providing not only the training, tools and resources, but by also affording the opportunity to be surrounded by others who comprehend and appreciate the issues we face daily.

The 2018 Winter Conference schedule is already being developed. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque February 21-23, 2018.
