Past, Present & Trajectory

Terry Dean

NMASBO is committed to developing public awareness and appreciation of public school business leaders and the value they add to the daily operations of schools through The School Business Official of the Year which is awarded annually at the Spring Budget Workshop in Albuquerque, NM.

The Association is on a great trajectory for the future. So, where do we go from here? The mission of NMASBO is: “To lead the New Mexico school business profession by providing quality professional development opportunities and a network of support.” What are we going to do? We are going to stay on mission. Some of my personal goals include offering more advanced training topics at the conferences and initiating a study group to prepare for the SFO exam. We are also working on some other projects that will enhance the educational opportunities, improve continuing education certification process and assist in the reporting of your training hours.

We have a great trajectory thanks to Joey’s efforts. I see the association and the profession soaring to even greater heights in the future.

NMASBO is so very fortunate that Joey fell in our lap 16 years ago. Before Joey, NMASBO conducted a Fall Conference and Spring Budget Workshop. All of the legwork to put on the conference was done by the president and the board. For a few years, immediately prior to Joey being contracted, the association was not thriving as it is today. In fact, we were almost non-existent. Originally, Joey was contracted to put on Spring Budget Workshop and he did a great job. After that, the board decided to hire Joey’s company to do all of our event planning and eventually, he was hired as our Executive Director. The association’s success is due to the wisdom and vision of a few dedicated School Business Professionals like Bill Moffatt, Caron Snow, Tami Coleman and others. These are the people who decided to hire Joey.

Over the past few months, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with Joey during the transitional period. As always, he has been a pleasure to work with. He is always coaching. Joey is leaving NMASBO in a much better position than he found us. Due to Joey’s efforts, we have a thriving association.
