NMASBO is Proud to Announce its Social Responsibility Campaign

Over the past six years, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to work in the New Mexico educational system. It is a great deal of responsibility but the reward of feeling like I am the engine that keeps my charter school running as it should makes it all worthwhile. Furthermore, I take great joy in the things I do around my school that go outside the bounds of my responsibilities. I also do my best to participate in and give back to my community.

I know that my fellow school business officials are also doing fantastic things across the whole State because I learn about them every year when we go through the difficult process of selecting a School Business Official of the Year. The ways that you all give back to your schools and local communities never ceases to amaze me. The #1 asset that NMASBO has will always be its members!

This year the NMASBO Communication Committee and Board has decided to build on the generosity of our NMASBO membership. We already know that, individually, our school business officials are some of the most giving and kindhearted individuals this world has to offer. What better way to showcase this than for us to combine our efforts into shared collaborative efforts? So NMASBO is proud to begin its Social Responsibility Campaign starting with our Fall Conference this year! Our plan is to pick a different charitable organization to sponsor at each of our conferences. We are positive that with each passing conference we will all be blown away what we can accomplish together.

This 2015 Fall Conference: we have chosen to support the Coats for Kids program in Las Cruces. Some of you might be thinking, “Hey, it’s still in the 90’s (some places 100s!) outside!” But I am sure most of us planners and Game of Throne fans out there know these famous words: “Winter is Coming” Our efforts now will help make sure that children in the Doña Ana County area do not have to wait until the Holiday

Season to get the coats they need. There are three ways you can support:

1. Coin Drive: Please bring any loose change (or even cash) that you are willing to donate.

Your monetary contributions go a long way towards meeting the needs of children.

2. Bring Coats: Any size and type will do. We are not fashion snobs!

3. Do BOTH: No need to feel pigeonholed into doing one or the other. Do as much as your

generosity allows!

We are extremely excited about NMASBO’s first venture into our Social Responsibility Campaign. Our goal is to raise at least $1,000 and 100 coats at the Fall Conference. Make us proud and let’s more than exceed that goal! Many charitable organizations depend on receiving the bulk of their donations and support during the Holiday Season. NMASBO is excited that our three annual conferences provide our Social Responsibility Campaign an opportunity to give back to our New Mexico communities in a combined effort three times a year outside that normal season! We hope this is the beginning of something great and that, in the future, we will have members clamoring for what charitable organization we should next support in the same way that they enthusiastically support their individual nominations for School Business Official of the Year.

So, dig through your couches and your cars for loose change and go through your closets and find a coat or to donate to the kids of Doña Ana County! I look forward to seeing you all at the Fall Conference and see what we manage to achieve together!
