I want to begin by recognizing two of our long-time NMASBO members who have contributed to the association and to education in New Mexico in ways that words cannot adequately describe. Naomi Vicenti and Terry Dean have given much of their professional careers in public service to New Mexico education and, in particular, to the business of public education. I feel extremely blessed and privileged to have worked with these two outstanding individuals. Naomi and Terry have both served as NMASBO’s president and each of them clearly helped to bring status and recognition to the school business profession. I will truly miss them and wish them the very best in this next chapter of their lives. Thank you both for your unselfish service and commitment to New Mexico.

NMASBO has made many great strides in the past few years and I am looking forward to leading the association into the next exciting period of its development. The board has embarked on some very bold new goals and initiatives. One of my main goals for the upcoming two years is to create a real sense of belonging and connection for each of our members. I plan on making sure that every member who desires a chance to serve/volunteer for the association has a meaningful opportunity to do that. We will develop a volunteer committee to brainstorm ways to increase member involvement. As we generate volunteer opportunities, we will then promote and hopefully fill those volunteer positions. Please stay tuned as we roll out this new initiative.

The second main goal of the association is to develop a smooth succession plan for the Executive Director of NMASBO. As some of you may already know, our fearless leader, Joey Montano has announced his plans to retire from NMASBO in June 2018. This puts a huge task on the board of directors to find Joey’s replacement. Joey will leave some big shoes to fill and we will begin very soon developing an action plan for this transition. If any of you would like to give your input as we develop the plan, I welcome your comments. In the meantime, hang onto your hats (literally in some parts of the state), as the next couple of years are going to be a very exciting and challenging time for NMASBO. Thanks for the opportunity to serve the association. - Randy

Farewell

Thank you for allowing me to serve you on the NMASBO Executive Board as a member, President-Elect, President and recently as your Past President. It has been an honor and privilege to be on the Board for so many years.

I have finally decided to retire from public schools. The past 40 years have seen many changes in school finance. It has been challenging at times and rewarding more often than not. School Business people are the best to work with. We are willing to help each other and share what we know.

I wish you all the best life has to offer. As I say to my coworkers every day when I come to work “Welcome to Paradise." Thanks, Naomi.
