FOCUS is a prevention service designed to help families manage the stress that arises from the challenges of military
life. The program includes the entire family and is customized to suit each family’s needs. FOCUS is offered in several
formats: family consultations, family training, couples training, small group training, and workshops. FOCUS maintains
strong connections with other military family services to s upport a network of care for families and couples.
JULY TIP OF THE MONTH
Summertime is a good time for BBQ’s, going to the park, and sitting by the pool
with friends and family. In the heat of the summer, sometimes kids can “lose their
cool” and they may misbehave. When children have “lost their cool,”
it is up to the parents or caregiver to help the child get back in control of their
feelings and actions. Taking a time out is a great way to help your child regulate
their emotions, and instead of sending your child to “time out,” try calling it the
“cool down” corner. “Cooling down” helps the child to connect their emotions
to their behavior, while removing the negative or “punishment” feeling of
“time out.” FOCUS can work with your whole family on summer cool down
strategies!
