ENGAGING THE STUDENT VOICE
The Ayrshire College Student Association (ACSA) worked
in partnership with the Quality Enhancement team
to ensure students were involved in all aspects of the
curriculum. Student representatives participated in all
stages of the College’s quality cycle including workshops
with employers in August 2014, team evaluations in
October 2014, curriculum quality week in May 2015 and
course team meetings throughout the year.
Students influencing learning
and teaching
Students influenced learning and teaching in a variety
of ways throughout the year. Student presidents played
an active role on the Board of Management and at
Learning and Teaching Committee meetings where they
participated fully in discussions and decisions on learning
and teaching.
The impact of this representation on the wider
“student
body is that students feel they have a
voice and that their views are included in the
decisions made. The power balance between the
student and college has shifted to allow students
more autonomy and a greater sense
of control.

AYRSHIRE COLLEGE / QUALITY REPORT 2014/15
“Class representatives are involved in curriculum
team evaluations and students feel totally
involved in providing a realistic reflection on the
previous year which informs future planning.
Students are able to openly ask any questions
and truly input to their learning and teaching.
This means that students are co-creators of the
curriculum.”
Angela Alexander, Student President
The proactive commitment of ACSA to working with
the College to ensure students influence learning
and teaching was recognised when it was shortlisted
for the Sparqs Student Engagement Awards 2015
for its partnership work in the classroom through its
contribution to curriculum design, delivery, assessment
and feedback.
Feedback from students throughout the year
demonstrated excellence in many curriculum areas in
relation to involving students in curriculum planning and
design. In 2015-16, the College will focus on enhancing
student engagemen BF
