GRADUATES’ A S S O C I AT I O N NEWSLETTER By Maureen Paterson, Graduates’ Association President MEMBERSHIP The QMU Graduates’ Association is open to all members at QMU and associated educational establishments. A one- off payment gives life membership that allows you to attend networking lunches, which usually take place on the last Saturday of the month from September to November and January to April, and the AGM. Membership also provides the opportunity to enjoy the comfortable ambience of seaside house Madras Lodge in Gullane, which is available all year including Christmas and New Year. Membership is open to all graduates and present or former staff. A membership costs £35 at time of graduation or £45 for members of staff and alumni members at other times. However, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of QMUGA, in 2014 membership is being offered at £20 for the first 100 applicants. To become a member contact Sylvia Northcott, Membership Secretary (see page 31) SOCIAL EVENTS In July, I attended the QMU graduation ceremony that took place in the Usher Hall, Edinburgh. MASTER CHEF CLASS On Saturday 28th September several members attended a Master Chef Class followed by an excellent lunch at Café St Honoré, Edinburgh. REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE On the 10th November Sylvia Northcott and myself represented QMUGA at the Remembrance Day Service in the Old Quad Edinburgh. CHRISTMAS LUNCH In December, several members met at the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School for a Christmas lunch prepared and presented by QMU students as part of their practical training. Everyone was impressed by the standard achieved as they had only started training in September 2013. JANUARY NETWORKING LUNCH The first lunch of the year took place at Number 20 Restaurant, Royal British Hotel, Princes Street, Edinburgh. GA DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Anniversary Celebration - Friday 23rd May 2014: The Queen Margaret University Graduates’ Association invites you to its 100th anniversary celebration to be held at QMU in May. More details of this event can be found on the back page. To mark this occasion QMUGA has donated £150 to the ‘Trees of Life’ fund. The tree will be dedicated to the centenary of the QMUGA. Th
