This course will equip you with the expertise and practical skills that you need to work as a registered physiotherapist in the private or public healthcare sector. You’ll thrive in our supportive environment and benefit from clinical placements in each year. BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy Physiotherapy is a career where every day you can make a difference to people’s lives. It will be your expertise and empathy that will help them regain movement and function following an injury, illness or other disability. Year Three modules Structure This is a four-year, full-time honours degree. You will complete a range of modules each year, as outlined, and a research project in Year Four. Interprofessional Education 3: Interprofessional Working and Person- centred Care/ Advancement of Clinical Management/ Public Health and Health Promotion/ Practice-based Learning – Placement 2/ Practice-based Learning – Placement 3 In Year One you will study the basic and applied sciences that underpin physiotherapy. In Years Two and Three you will develop patient management and therapeutic skills. Part of your learning will take place in a variety of real health and social care settings. You will work (supported by a registered physiotherapist) with patients, their carers and families, and with other health and social care professionals. These practice-based placements are invaluable and will enrich your learning in all levels of the course. You may be placed at sites across Scotland, and will be required to cover any associated travel and accommodation costs. Teaching, learning and assessment Year Four modules You will be taught in lectures, seminars, practical workshops and laboratories. Outside these timetabled sessions you will be expected to continue learning through self-study.You will be assessed using a range of methods including practical exams and written course work at the end of each module or semester. Interprofessional Education 4: Political and Social Contexts/ Applied Physiotherapy Research Project/ Personal and Professional Development in Contemporary and Emerging Issues in Physiotherapy Practice/ Practice-based Learning – Placement 4/ Practice-based Learning – Elective Placement In the final year, you’ll work collaboratively in small groups on a research project. All project teams will have a dedicated supervisor to guide the process. Interprofessional Education 1: Teams and Team Working/ Preparing for Physiotherapy Practice/ Introduction to Foundations of Health Science/ Progressing Foundations of Health Science/ Contextualising Physiotherapy: Self, Health and Wellbeing We have implemented an interprofessional education (IPE) focus within all of our undergraduate healthcare courses, including this one, to help produce graduates who are confident in their own professional identity but with additional skills that will allow them to work as effective team members. Physiotherapy is a demanding course and we recommend that you research the career thoroughly and consider work shadowing before you come to QMU.
