Commenting on her internship with GSK
Katie said: “I’m delighted to be given this
opportunity as it opens exciting new
doors. I’ve learnt so much! Not only have
GSK been incredibly supportive in my
learning and development, but the Saltire
team also ensures you have access to
external networking opportunities, which
will be invaluable for the future. I would
definitely encourage other QMU students
to apply for the Scholarship.”

The Student Development Fund
Grants from QMU’s Student Development
Fund are designed to support specific
student-led projects, initiatives and
activities which have a positive benefit for
the student and/or the University.
Whether students are continuing their
personal development, building on their
knowledge or expanding their horizons,
the Student Development Fund helps
them to take advantage of a unique
opportunity. The Fund is designed to
support only those projects, initiatives and
activities which would not happen without
additional financial support. The Student
Development Fund is an ‘opportunities
fund’ supported by donations from QMU
graduates and friends. The Fund can help
students make the most of their time at
QMU. All students are eligible to apply.

Development Fund, visit our website at

BSc (Hons) Human Biology
“I applied to the Vice-Chancellor’s
Fund to help finance a charity
support expedition to Malawi with
First Aid Africa. The charity aims
to develop sustainable first aid
teaching and equipment in
sub-Saharan Africa, including four
partner countries – Malawi, Kenya,
Tanzania and Uganda.
“I spent six weeks working in a
high school teaching first aid to
classes of up 100 students. I’m
passionate about improving first
aid in the developing world and
before leaving for Malawi, I took
intensive training in developing
world first aid, teaching, and
health and safety.
“While in Malawi, I also worked
alongside a community healthcare
practitioner trained by First Aid
Africa to enhance their knowledge
of first aid skills, including the
recovery position, burns, fractures,
snake bites and shock.
“I’m very thankful for opportunities
like the QMU Vice-Chancellor’s
Fund to allow students like me to
take part in these experiences.”
