QMU offers a range of taught master’s degree courses that can
give you the opportunity and confidence to build your career in
media, communication and creative industries.
Our MSc Media Management focuses on developing an
understanding of media and creative businesses and the global
environment in which they operate. Our MSc Strategic
Communication and Public Relations is for students aiming to
start or develop a career in the communication and PR sector.
Our MSc Digital Campaigning and Content Creation
responds to industry research which shows that digital is no
longer an add-on, and that professionals need to
accommodate their role as content creators. We are also the
only Scottish university to teach the Chartered Institute of
Public Relations (CIPR) Diplomas: CIPR Spec ialist Diploma
(Internal Communications), CIPR Specialist Diploma (Public
Affairs); CIPR Professional PR Diploma.
QMU is ideally placed to support media, communication and
creative industry. Edinburgh was top in Scotland in job growth
(29.64%) in the creative industries over the last five years.
According to Nesta (2018) creative industries are driving
economic growth across the UK, creating one million new
creative industries jobs between 2013 and 2030. Our students
benefit from all that Edinburgh offers as a national centre of
government, business and creative industries, as well as the
home of the world’s largest arts festival.
The UK PR and communications industry is the most highly
developed in Europe and second only to the US globally. Some
71,000 people work in this multi-billion pound UK industry,
22% more than in 2014 (CIPR, 2018). It values higher
education, with industry training and qualification as one of the
top four mechanisms used to judge professional standards.
