The Shedden Bursary Fund for Quiristers The benefits of a choral education are too numerous to list, but the product is usually a confident, sociable and well-rounded person with a strong academic grounding and a musical knowledge and appreciation which will last a lifetime. Some may become professional musicians, many will not, but it is an experience all choristers remember and count as very special. Lord & Lady Lupton’s son, Sam (Q. 2003- 09), benefited from a choral education and they wish others to have the same start in life, irrespective of financial background: bursaries help to achieve this. In 2009 the Luptons established the Shedden Bursary Fund for Quiristers, set up to help Qs whose parents might struggle to afford The Pilgrims’ School fees. Thanks to the generosity of many donors, OQs, Q parents and OWs who remember the wonderful contribution made by the Quiristers, we have secured £1,340,000 in income and pledges. The target is to raise £1,500,000 to ensure that each year there is sufficient income to meet the cost of bursary provision. Demand for help is increasing. In 2010 two Qs received bursaries costing £7,746 and today there are six which is costing Winchester £45,400. The easiest way to give a one off or regular gift, tax efficiently, is online via www.wincollsoc.org We are nearly there. Please do help us to raise the final £160,000 needed to reach our £1.5million target. Thank you to everyone who has already supported the Appeal.
