I ’ M ONE OF QSOOM ’ S GREATEST SUPPORTERS BECAUSE THEY GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY DIFFERENT COURSES AND THE CAMARADERIE IS

EXCELLENT .

Players aged 65 and over haven ’ t been forgotten . They play in the super seniors events and can challenge for the endof-year order of merit prize .
A huge fan of QSOOM events is McLeod Country Golf Club ’ s Tim Deakin , who plays in as many events as time affords .
“ I enjoy the opportunity to play more golf on good courses with good people ,” said Tim , who plays off two and was recently selected to represent Australia in matches against the Australian Defence Force .
“ I ’ m one of QSOOM ’ s greatest supporters because they give us the opportunity to play different courses and the camaraderie is excellent .
“ I have played at resort courses and many of Brisbane ’ s better courses and each one throws up a different challenge .”
“ It ’ s an opportunity for clubs to get more people playing on their courses , usually on quieter days ,” he said .
For the record , the QSOOM season tees off in August and ends in July with the Queensland Senior Amateur , however , golfers can join at any time throughout the season .
This year , the men ’ s senior amateur is at Carbrook Golf Club from July 31 to August 2 and the women ’ s at Maroochy River Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast from July 23-27 . This is where 450 points are up for grabs .
“ That means the competition is open right up until the last event ,” John said .
“ You could be coming 10th going into Queensland Senior Amateur and all of a sudden you could get enough points to win the order of merit . It keeps the interest right to the end .”
Following the Queensland Senior Amateur , a 10-strong team is selected to play against an equal number of senior professionals .
The highest-ranking Queenslander in the senior amateur and the nine highest-ranking players in the QSOOM play the pros for the Jack Brown Shield .
John says he loves the buzz , camaraderie and excited chatter among golfers at QSOOM events .
“ Even if I have had a bad round and I ’ m feeling down in the dumps someone will thank me for what we are doing and tell me how great the event is and that just boosts my spirits ,” he revealed .
“ I think ‘ wow , we can ’ t let this go and have to continue growing the events ’.”

Tim was quick to acknowledge John Jayo and major sponsor PresCare for their contributions .
“ A lot of thanks must go to John , who coordinates the events ,” he said . “ It not an easy job , but someone has to do the grunt work and John is doing a great job .
“ The PresCare people have been very generous over the years and their contribution has been nothing short of amazing .”
Golf clubs , too , can benefit financially , according to John Jayo .
