very year

when Easter comes

around, as a worship leader, I

look for songs that will bring hope.

There are many songs out there, but one that has really flooded my soul this year is “Because He Lives” written by Bill and Gloria Gaither. This hymn is so simple yet powerful. So many times, we think that we must sing eloquent words to make meaning come to life in a song, but not this song.

The song was written in 1971 and won Gospel Song of the Year in 1974. It was written during a time of social upheaval, threats of war, and betrayals of national and personal trust. It was a time of assassinations and drug traffic. And during all this, there was an assurance that Jesus Christ could blow across troubled minds and bring hope.

John 14:19 “because I live, you also will live.” Isn’t that comforting to know that within our hearts we can know that we will live with Jesus Christ one day and all of our troubles will be over.

The song simply says:

"Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.

Because He lives, all fear is gone.

Because I know He holds my future,

Life is worth the living just because He lives."

Let this Easter bring you hope knowing

that because He lives, anything and

everything you face, He holds you in the

palm of His hand and knows the plan for

your life. Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the

plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,

“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future."

This is my heart song.
