commercial manufactured winners. They’re the X-Factors of the gaming world. Millions of gamers go bonkers for them every year and they bring in a crazy amount of money. One a year? Why not. If we keep buying and the devs make enough money to sink Godzilla if you put it all in a Tesco bag and tied it to his ankle, surely everyone is happy. Yes? No? Now I’ve never played a COD game but amongst the cacophony of voices on Twitter and numerous forums I hear stuff like bored, fed up, not another one. The very mention of a COD game seems to throw certain internet users into a frenzy of I’m rubber, you’re glue, if you play COD you’re made of poo. COD, very much like AC attracts way too much attention. When was the last time you heard an Uncharted hater? Or a Disgaea hater? There’s just something about these AAA giants that makes absolutely everyone feel the need to express an opinion. As I’ve never played COD I can’t give you an opinion other than it looks like a very fine version of what it is. If I ever get into that type of game, I’ll be straight on Twitter asking folks to recommend the best one to start with. I don’t feel the need to talk endlessly about how bad it is just because it’s not the type of game that floats my boat and it happens to be a little bit controversial. I also don’t like Far Cry. It’s first person, it makes me feel dizzy, it’s a shooter. Again, it just doesn’t float my twelve foot daysailer. Therefore, Far Cry is off my radar. I don’t seek conversations about it, I don’t slag it off and, most importantly, I don’t try to make others feel an inch high just because they’ve dared to enjoy something I’m not keen on. Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty, bless their cotton jackboots, don’t seem to be able to avoid wretched criticism just for being what they are. They are always subject to the school bully. If Assassin’s Creed Syndicate survives the critics – the IGNs and the Gamespots – will it survive its own sketchy history and the droves of people waiting to criticise something they don’t even care about? I guess we’re about to find out.
