ISPA FLASHBACK In ISPA Flashback, an ongoing series in celebration of our 30th anniversary, we’re going to share with you the visual highlights of 30 years of ISPA, from 1991 to 2020. READY TO RECOVER 2012 – 2014 IN ISPA FLASHBACK, AN ONGOING SERIES in celebration of our 30th anniversary, we’re going to share with you the visual highlights of 30 years of ISPA, from 1991 to 2020. By the time that 2012 arrived, the global spa industry had begun to recover from the recession that began in 2008 and 2009. This was proven in the annual ISPA U.S. Spa Industry Studies, which showed consistent growth in all “Big Five” statistics during this period after a substantial dip in the 2010 Study. The U.S. Spa Industry Study wasn’t the only research being done at this time, though: 2013 saw the release of the well-received fourth volume of the Consumer Snapshot Initiative, which highlighted the male spa-goer. ISPA also overhauled the way that it communicates with its members in early 2012, launching both the ISPA SmartBrief newsletter and the ISPA Blog, which lived on Blogspot for three years before moving over to experienceispa.com. While ISPA worked on new ways to reach its members, it also found a familiar home for the ISPA Conference & Expo. In both 2013 and 2014, the event was held at Mandalay Bay Casino; in fact, five out of seven Conferences between 2011 and 2017 were held there.
