ISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS LIKE MANY OF YOU, MY SPA WAS FORCED TO CLOSE IN EARLY MARCH, and our entire resort was later closed as well. Everyone was furloughed, including me. Shortly after that, I was on a walk by myself, reflecting on a quote that had come to mind: “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” My phone immediately rang; it was my GM asking if I would be willing to work security for the resort while it’s closed. I quickly said “yes,” and my daily routine is now very different. I spend 40 straight hours at the resort, keeping an eye on things and checking the mail, followed by four-and-a-half days off. Needless to say, the past month-and-a-half has not been fun for our industry, and I’ve been continually returning to that quote to help me “I was on a walk by myself, reflecting on a quote that had come to mind: ‘Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.’” through these crazy times we’re all living in. Try not to worry about tomorrow; let tomorrow worry about itself. Instead, use this time to reset. Reset your mind. Reset your priorities. And if you can’t turn off your work brain, then work on ways you can reset your spa. Consider a revised pay structure or a new treatment menu specifically for COVID-19 therapy. Create new hygiene and cleaning SOPs, and begin working on your reopening marketing campaigns. I hope you lean on ISPA during this time for help and guidance. Utilize all of the benefits that come with your membership. Since March, we’ve been working to provide the tools, research, sample SOP’s, and more that will help you weather this storm. ISPA—and the entire spa community—is here for you during these crazy times. We are all in this together and we will come out of this stronger, better and completely reset. —GARRETT MERSBERGER, CHAIRMAN 2 PULSE ■ MAY 2020
