inaugural ISPA Spa Workforce Study. An
overwhelming majority of the respondents
were female (84 percent), North American-
based (80 percent) and employed full-time
(96 percent). Just over half (56 percent) have worked in the spa
industry for over 10 years and a similar proportion (53 percent)
have worked in management for five years or more.

term career in the spa industry and tend to be motivated by
career development opportunities. This could be the reason for
the long-hours culture many managers endure, as the average
management respondent reported working more than 44 hours
per week.
The results of the study show that the spa industry is full of
eager managers who are interested in furthering their education
and careers in spa. Providing those opportunities will help
elevate our current workforce to the best it can be. n
