Dickens wrote , “ It was the best of times , it was the worst of times ... it was the epoch of belief , it was the epoch of incredulity … it was the spring of hope , it was the winter of despair .” Those words may now be more than 160 years old , but they sum up 2020 for me .

FROM YOUR CHAIRMAN

Dickens wrote , “ It was the best of times , it was the worst of times ... it was the epoch of belief , it was the epoch of incredulity … it was the spring of hope , it was the winter of despair .” Those words may now be more than 160 years old , but they sum up 2020 for me .

IN ALL HONESTY , I have entered 2021 a very different man than I thought I would be . Life shifted on a moment ’ s notice , and we are all probably a little more bruised , a little more introspective and hopefully a lot more grateful than at this time a year ago . I learned to value the profoundly deep friendships and relationships in my life that buoyed me through the past year . Without those connections , those close friends with whom I could share my deepest anxieties , hopes and dreams , making it through 2020 with my hope intact might not have been possible . They kept me engaged . And now we turn the page .
ISPA is turning the page in 2021 , too . As 2020 unfolded , we made the tough decision to take Pulse fully digital , and with the turn of the calendar , we are bringing it back to you live and in person . You will literally be able to turn the pages again . It may seem like a small gesture , but it ' s an important one . After all , Pulse ’ s content comes from you , the members . More than a magazine , Pulse is a way for all of us to stay engaged and connected with one another . It is a vehicle for us to share valuable information and important stories with our peers , the way we shared them through everything that 2020 brought to us . Holding the magazine in your hands is like touching the heart of the industry .
I hope you enjoy the print edition . It is truly an amazing issue . And aren ’ t we lucky to be able to turn the pages together ?
