Meet Dwan Elani MASSAGE THERAPIST, WELLNESS COACH, SPA DEVELOPER AND CONSULTANT • DWAN ELANI LLC. DWAN ELANI REMEMBERS A TRANSFORMATIONAL MOMENT IN HER LIFE. She was watching TV and the show featured a massage therapist. She was only in third grade. Intrigued with the movements of the massage therapist, she thought, “I want to do that!” “It was weird because at that stage in life, your imagination is full throttle with ideas of careers,” Elani says. “You know the typical things like doctor, police officer, firefighter, etc. “For me, it was very different. It wasn’t my imagination at all. I knew I would be a massage therapist like I knew how to spell my name.” Ever since, Elani has followed her childhood dream in Albany, Georgia, which is where she was born and raised and later graduated from Albany State University. Now in her 11th year in the spa industry, Elani is a licensed massage therapist, wellness coach, spa developer and “For me, it was very different. It wasn’t my imagination at all. I knew I would be a massage therapist like I knew how to spell my name.” consultant at DwanElani LLC. Her dream has evolved from just being a massage therapist to someone who advocates for total wellness. After being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2009, Elani decided to dive deeper. She learned from her studies in massage school that the body reacts to everything, so she looked at wellness from a comprehensive aspect and learned that the disease was a physical response to emotional trauma from earlier in her life. “Wellness is my passion and my assignment,” Elani says. “We all have an assignment; some spend their lives trying to figure it out. I am so thankful I discovered mine at an early age.” 62 PULSE ■ JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020 n
