ISPA FOUNDATION A t the 2018 ISPA Conference & Expo, we announced the Beauty Changes Lives ISPA Scholarship, an all-new scholarship fund to help our industry. To fill in the details on this important step for the spa community, I talked to Lynelle Lynch, president of Beauty Changes Lives. Frank: Let’s fill in our Pulse readers. Why was the scholarship created? Lynelle: There are there are 38,000 jobs open in the spa industry within the United States. This job crisis was the catalyst for ISPA’s collaboration with Beauty Changes Lives on the GET YOUR DEAM JOB campaign, which then naturally led to this schol- arship. It is truly the industry’s responsibility and opportunity to recruit the next generation and also pay their success forward to mentor the next generation. F: Who is the scholarship for, and how many people will it help? L: We’ve raised $35,000 so far to start the fund, and the scholarships will be valued at $1,000. Students who have enrolled in an esthetic or massage program can apply online. To help determine scholar recipients, the student is asked to provide an essay or video describing their inspiration to join the industry. L: ISPA is the first association to fund a scholarship through Beauty Changes Lives, which is HONORARY BOARD MEMBERS truly a way to unite their members and inspire them to “pay it forward” to mentor and sponsor the next generation. Ruth Stricker The Marsh, A Center for Balance and Fitness F: How does the scholarship connect with or relate to the Get Your Dream Job campaign? L: They’re working together to help our industry. The Get Your Dream job campaign is the first Deborah Szekely WELLNESS WARRIOR stage, focused on elevating the perception of careers in the spa industry and making them a first choice. Once people are interested, this scholarship fund is the second stage that helps them get started.
