ISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS THE PAST FEW WEEKS HAVE SERVED AS A REMINDER THAT THINGS CAN CHANGE VERY, VERY QUICKLY —especially for those of us working in wellness and hospitality. A few weeks ago, I drafted the original version of this letter, which highlighted the opening of applications to the ISPA Board of Directors and the importance of strong, diverse voices on our board. Now, with the escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m writing to let you all know that Pulse magazine is making a short-term shift to a digital-only format. This is for several reasons. First, doing so reduces the risk of spreading contagion via an issue of Pulse shared by multiple staff members at your business. Second, many of our member spas have had to “...switching to a digital-only format will allow us to be nimbler during the coming months and deliver critical information to you in a timely fashion.” temporarily close, and it simply doesn’t make sense to deliver print issues of Pulse to shuttered businesses. And lastly, switching to a digital-only format will allow us to be nimbler during the coming months and deliver critical information to you in a timely fashion. ISPA staff will be updating this issue of Pulse throughout the month with new information and additional content to help our members during this crisis. When the dust settles and spa life begins to return to normal, we will transition Pulse back to print and the magazine will resume its usual production and distribution schedule. In the meantime, hang tight and take a deep breath. I have no doubt that our members will weather this storm in true ISPA fashion: together, as a family. —GARRETT MERSBERGER, CHAIRMAN 2 PULSE ■ APRIL 2020
