UA will be performing Enda Walsh’s The New
Electric Ballroom from November 28th to
December 8th on Thursdays to Sundays, again
to be held at Sasha’s 3rd Floor. Directed by
James herself, Walsh’s heart-breaking tale of
love lost and a bitter rivalry between sisters won
plaudits everywhere it went after debuting at the
Edinburgh Festival in 2008. Forcing you to put
aside your Yule-tide cheer for a moment, Electric
Ballroom will keep you despairingly fascinated and
leave you asking ‘what’s it all for?’

at the hands of James and her UA cohort then fear
not, for Apphia Campbell is back in Shanghai and
already working feverishly on her next production.
Returning from a highly successful stint in New
York with the genuinely excellent Black is the
Colour of My Voice, Campbell has penned a
new production looking to bring some festive joy
to home-sick expats. Holiday Hitch opens on
November 28th and runs until December 8th at
Anken Green Rooftop Space. Set in New York the
play, directed by Meredith Yarbrough, shows the
lives of two actresses vying for a premier position
offered to them by a fellow they both take a liking
to. Campbell’s assured use of dialogue should
make for a thoroughly enjoyable night and I’m
