Para- theraps breidohri. DATZ 4 Throughout this article I have used the name synspi- lum, it being a widely used name for this species. But recently it has turned out that there is an even older name for it. Research has shown that the names Cich- lasoma synspilum Hubbs 1935 and Heros melanurus Günther 1862 apply to only one species. Again the old- er name has priority over the younger and sysnpilum is therefore a junior synonym of melanurus. Following the logic of this article the valid name is thus Vieja melanura (Günther 1862), despite the fact that the authors of the paper assign the species to Paraneet- roplus. I believe this to be far fetched considering the differences between Paraneetroplus bulleri (the type species) and species I was talking about in this article. 25
