WORDS FROM THE EDITORS

Dear Readers,

We round out our first full year of issues with two finalists from our inaugural contest, M.I.A. by Shilita Montez and Clay Pots by S.M. Knisely, along with Burrito by Robert Morgan Fisher, Any Old Apocalypse by Chelse Werner-Jatzke, and Creature / Predator by Em Faerman. We’re very proud of the work we’ve shared with you this year and have been impressed by the quality, daring, and diversity of the submissions we’ve been receiving. With a full year under our belt, we hope that our vision of Psychopomp Magazine has solidifed for our readers, writers, and artists, and we hope to grow and evolve even more in the coming year.

In the next few months, we will be releasing our contest chapbook and our first print annual, which we’re very excited about. We plan to nominate work for honors and anthologies, develop our relationships with past and future contriburs via blog features, run our second contest, and think about other ways we can interact with writers and readers whether that be through online programs or simply having more of an active social media presence. As many of you know, journals like Psychopomp Magazine are often a labor of love run by writers who often have full plates, and we’re no exception. But because we value our writers, we will always strive to read every submission with care and respond in a timely fashion. And because we value our writers, we are going to look into the possibility of paying our submitters (even if just a token amount). We know our writers work hard, and we’d like to reward them as best we can. As always, our goal is take our readers into a realm that might be familiar but is inhabited by the strange and unexpected. Thank you very much for your support this past year, and we hope you’ll join us in our journey in year two.
