24 INTERVIEW INTERVIEW 25 25 PM: Let’s start from the basics, who are you and where are you from? IS: My name is Marios Karakasidis, i am 35 years old and i am from Thessaloniki, Greece. PM: How you started with Psytrance in the first place? IS: My first “connection” with the psytrance genre started back in 1998-1999 during my studies in the UK. I was invited by some friends to join them in a psy-trance party and i must say i got immediately hooked on it. The whole party atmosphere and vibe had a really massive impact on me and i’ve became a follower of the music ever since. PM: What got you into production path? IS: Like most of the producers of our scene, i also started as a DJ. Soon after a short bedroom career, i started playing my first parties in Thessaloniki in 2004 and very soon became friends with many of the artists performing at those parties. Having a classical music background and following their tips and tricks made it really easy for me to start a new, more creative path, i always wanted to follow. I would say it comes as a natural “next step” into every DJ career to begin his own productions. PM: How you define your style? IS: I would define it as progressive-psytrance, even though it can be desrcibed in different terms, depending from which country you are. From goa-trance to psy-prog to progressive psy-trance, its all used to describe the same. OUT NOW! PM: How you see psytrance scene nowadays? IS: I can say with certainty that the scene nowadays is far different from what it used to be 10 years ago! I am happy to see that year by year it gets bigger and bigger! More people attend to parties and a vast number of new artists appearing in the scene, expanding the music frontiers to even higher levels! I think in the following years we might see new “branches” and scenes being created all under the psytrance genre. PM: You have a new album out recently. Talk us a little bit about that. IS: The album is called “Modus Operandi” and it was released only a few weeks ago on Iono Music, at June 29th. It is my second personal album and it consists 9 tracks out of which 5 are collaborations with some of my closest friends and fellow artists such as Egorythmia, Time In Motion, Invisible Reality, Aquafeel and Mind Spin. It also includes a remix of mine, to one of E-clips’ milestone tracks “Overload” and 3 solo tracks. This album took me a lot of time to produce and walked me through some of my life’s most difficult and also pleasant times, in a personal level. It comes 4 years after my first album “Terraforma”, also released on Iono Music, and i consider it as my next stepping stone in my music career. Looking forward to the official presentation of it, next season to parties all over the world! PM: Do you have any production tips to give to the upcoming producers out there? IS: Some of the tips i have for the upcoming producers are these: 1) There is no fast lane to success. No matter how good you can get technically, experience is one key factor that only comes with time. 2) Try to achieve good sound quality rather than sound quantity. 3) Try to be original in your music. It comes natural for everyone to follow the style of their favourite artists at first, but try to put your signature in your music. 4) Don’t give up easily! The hardest thing for new producers is to make the brakethrough from anonymity to their first releases. There will be many failures and disappointments along the ݅䁅
