Page 10 Volume 1, Issue 1 Industrial Safety Industrial safety can be defined as the ability to manage the risks inherent to operations or related to the environment. Industrial safety is not a dislike of risks; rather it is a commitment to clearly identify them in relation to production operations, assess them in terms of quality and quantity, and manage them. Manufacturing Processes Manufacturing processes are the steps through which raw materials are transformed into a final product. The manufacturing process begins with the creation of the materials from which the design is made. These materials are then modified through manufacturing processes to become the required part. Manufacturing processes can include treating (such as heat treating or coating), machining, or reshaping the material. Management of Engineering Projects The primary challenge of engineering project management is to achieve all of the project goals and objectives while honoring the preconceived constraints. The primary constraints are scope, time, quality and budget. The secondary and more ambitious challenge is to optimize the allocation of necessary inputs and integrate them to meet pre-defined objectives. Manufacturing Systems A manufacturing system can be defined as the arrangement and operation of machines, tools, material, people and information to produce a value-added physical, informational or service product whose success and cost is characterized by measurable parameters. Design of Experiments Design of experiments (DOE) or experimental design is the design of any information-gathering exercises where variation is present, whether under the full control of the experimenter or not. In the design of ex- periments, the experimenter is often interested in the effect of some process or intervention (the "treatment") on some objects (the "experimental units").
