Pocono Speedway NASCAR Pocono Motor Speedway Recreational vehicle owners who also enjoy auto racing should find themselves at home at Pocono Raceway – a fa- cility that not only offers tailgating but also on-site camping during race weekends. Open since 1968, the raceway’s “tricky triangle” track has been a frequent stop for NASCAR and Indy car races over the past 50 years. Pocono will be hosting four races in five days this upcoming season, starting on June 25 and running through June 28 – including a NASCAR first two Monster Energy Cup Series races on back-to-back days. The weekend will also include competition from the Gander Outdoors Truck and ARCA Menards Series. Racing fans who travel by recreational vehicle to the raceway have the option of camping on site at the facility’s campground areas located within the infield as well as outside of the grounds. The campsite offers electrical and water hookups, water and ice vendors and bathroom facil- ities which include showers. For June’s upcoming five-day race weekend, a campsite offers parking for two vehicles as well as two infield passes for guests. After racing has concluded for the day, the racetrack offers evening activities for campers – including bingo, paint-and- sip, live music and fireworks. For attendees only wanting to tailgate, parking is free and the lots open at 6 a.m. Open campfires and barrel fires are not permitted and tailgating is only permitted directly behind spectator vehicles. Visitors also are encouraged to be courteous of others in attendance and to not occupy additional spaces around vehicles. Overnight parking is not permitted in the general parking area, with racetrack staff beginning to clear the lots around dusk. During previous racing seasons, Pocono has offered VIP and VIP Premium tailgating options. The VIP package includes parking in a special, designated area closer to the track, two parking spaces and passes for eight guests while the premium package offers a canopy tent, table and chairs and a cooler full of ice. Anyone interested should in these pack- ages should contact the racetrack about availability.
