Key Stage 4 Course Information Music Post 16 Course Information Music What will I Study? What will I Study? The BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Music allows you to develop your musical skills and knowledge in many areas including music theory, practical work, MIDI sequencing and listening skills. It is equivalent to two GCSEs. There are regular performance opportunities and students are provided with an understanding of the music industry and the range of careers available to them in the future, whilst being surrounded by like-minded musicians. At Post 16 we have two music courses: Music Route and Music Technology Route. How do I Apply? For Key Stage 4, you will be a confident performer on at least one instrument or voice. To apply for entry into Year 10, please answer the following questions in section 7 of the application form: a) List your practical strengths (instruments and/or voice) in order of ability and give a clear indication of which ONE you will audition with. b) Describe your musical experience and/or training to date. c)  What do you think the most important qualities are to succeed as a professional musician? Give reasons to support your answers. d)  Tell us about a composer or songwriter that you admire and why, using musical vocabulary as appropriate. For the Music Route you will be a confident performer on at least one instrument or voice. For the Music Technology Route you will show a strong aptitude for and knowledge of music technology with a portfolio of work that you have created and can explain. For both the Music Route and Music Technology Route we offer the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance & Production and will provide you with a range of practical skills, knowledge and training to support your aspirations for a career in the music industry. This qualification is equivalent to three A levels. The Music Route will include subjects such as music theory, aural skills, songwriting, music industry, ensemble skills, music history, music technology, ethnomusicology (world music), ensemble performance and solo performance. The Music Technology Route will include subjects such as mus ic theory, history, aural skills, MIDI sequencing, recording, mixing, live sound, composition and performance. How do I Apply? You may apply for ONE ROUTE ONLY. For entry into Year 12, please answer the following questions in section 7 of the application form: a) (Music Route applicants only) List your practical strengths (instruments and/or voice) in order of ability and give a clear indication of which ONE you will audition with. OR (Music Technology Route applicants only) Give a detailed summary of your experience and/or training in music technology, including any software that you are familiar with. b)  (All applicants) Describe your musical experience and/or training in music to date. This could include performances, composition work, recording sessions or anything else that you consider relevant. c)  (All applicants) What do you think are the most important qualities to succeed as a professional musician? Give reasons to support your answers.
