Course Overview
Only available to those who are joining at aged 16 , this course will teach you a wide range of technical , creative and management skills required to run theatre productions . From learning how to light a stage , to managing the sound , to designing and building the set and designing and creating costumes , this course will give you the foundation you need to pursue a career in the performing arts industry and go into higher education .
The BRIT School offers extensive theatre facilities , giving you the chance to learn and develop practical skills . By doing this course it will give you some real experience that will give you a good head start for a career in the technical theatre arts field . At the end of the two-year course you will achieve a UAL , Level 3 , Extended Diploma in Production Arts .
Student Experience
Every show put on in the School is managed by the Technical Theatre Arts department . After developing your skills you will learn to focus on a specific discipline as you work towards your courses .
The equipment used by the department is industry standard state of the art and uses brands such as ETC , Avolites , Yamaha , Tomcat and Jenome , plus the department is sponsored by companies which include PRG XL Video , Britannia Row , Function One , MAC Cosmetics and TSL .
What Qualities do I need ?
You will need to be dedicated , organised and a good timekeeper as a lot of the practical work you do will take place on productions outside of school hours . You should also have achieved a reasonable level in GCSE English and maths , as elements of the course are writing-based . While not mandatory , some theatre experience in any field would be useful .
How do I Apply ?
Please answer the following questions in section 7 of the application form :
a ) Describe and comment on the sets , costumes , lighting and sound of any recent live performances you have seen . This could be a music concert , play or musical you may have seen .
b ) What creative activities are you involved in that are related to the course ? For instance you may have been involved in a school play , drama club , or play a musical instrument .
c ) Why do you think you are suited to the Technical Theatre Arts course ?
d ) What do you think you will bring to the course ?
