The Christian Reader November 2006 35 Mr. Speaker Speaks RELATIONSHIPS LEAD TO MUCH STRONGER INDIVIDUALS By Vincent T. Edwards Blessed Enterprise Tallahassee, Florida “And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?” (Acts 19:15 KJV) We have often heard “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” In my opinion it is more about who knows you if you desire to be successful. Businesses, organizations and individuals typically wink in the dark. They are the only ones who know that they are winking. When the goods, services, and talents you have to offer are needed, are you the one thought of? Are you investing time in networking and building relationships? People respond to and buy from people they know and like. I’ve been told that 80 - 85 percent of jobs are filled by word of mouth. Who knows you when they are seeking the right person to fill a vacancy? You can be the “Best” and “Broke” because no one knows you. You can be “Average” and “Excel” because people know you. Relationships are how things get done. How are your relationships these days? Husband/Wife? Business/Clients? God/You?. Life itself revolves around relationships. I was told that LIFE is Living In Freedom Everyday. No man is an island. It is impossible to live life alone. We all need someone at some point in time. I am not referring to getting to know people just for the “Hook Up”, but for the exchange of knowledge, information, insight and wisdom that is beneficial to both parties (Win/Win). Building relationships/friendships to establish interdependence and teams, which lead to stronger and better individuals and communities. Would you like to meet more people? Would you like more people to know you? Get out of your comfort zone and take time to talk to and listen to people you do not know. Become more knowledgeable so that you can have meaningful conversation about more than one subject (read-read-read). Be nice, smile and introduce yourself. You never know whom you might meet.
