PROGRAM SUCCESS – MAY 2009 Charles E. Simmons, III has been a Pediatrician for almost 30 years. He is single, never been married, and still in search of that soul-mate he is sure the Lord is sending his way. Simmons Pediatrics is located at 1771 Edgewood Avenue West in the Nursing Home Complex. He, along with Marvin Wells DMD, and Ray White, constructed, owned and managed this facility for two years. He served as the Medical Director for the Nursing Home for one Year. He also served as Medical Director for Sharp Ambulance Service for two years. Governor Lawton Chiles appointed Dr. Simmons to the State Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology for two terms. He was State President of the Medical Dental & Pharmaceutical Association and served on the Local and State Boards of the American Lung Association. He is a member of the Sigma P i P h i F r a t e r n i t y, National Guardsman Organization, and past President of the FLAJAX Club. He was formally the Chairman of the Pediatric Department at Methodist Hospital. While Scoutmaster of Troop 51, he produced five Eagle Scouts and also received the Silver Beaver Award. He has PAGE 21 been a Chairman’s Roundtable member at the Johnson Family YMCA for many years and was over the medical cluster for the Black Achievers Program on Saturdays. Dr. Simmons admits most of his patients to Baptist Wolfson’s Children Hospital. He also admits patients at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Memorial Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital. He faithfully attends Bethel Baptist Institutional Church where he was baptized as a child. A-B HONOR ROLL Recipients for 2008
