PROGRAM SUCCESS – AUGUST 2009 PAGE 35 FROM GOD’S CORNER “IF YOU GO WITH JESUS, YOU ARE GOING THE RIGHT WAY” By Aundra Bryant knew that were Tallahassee, Florida destination. Josiah what God the people of Israelthem. too far away from had intended for The Late Willie Neal “Country Boy” Johnson recorded a song with the Gospel Keynotes about ten years ago entitled “If You Go With Jesus, You Are Going The Right Way”. November 4, 2008 will go down in history as a special date because Senator Barack Obama was elected the first African American President in the history of this great nation. As President-Elect Obama made his acceptance speech that night, he said that he would be the President of the white, black, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, democrats and republicans. As I sat there watching him utter those profound words, my mind flashed back to Second Kings Chapter 22 verses 1-2 which says “Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for thirty one years in Jerusalem. “And he did that which was right in the eye sight of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left”. It is very ironic that Josiah was so young and inexperienced when he succeeded his father Amnon. Many critics have been crying from the beginning of Obama’s campaign that he was too inexperienced to run the United States. Josiah was determined that he was not going to walk in the same path that his father did. Josiah’s goal was neither to abuse people nor his authority as King by chasing after idol gods and coming up with policies that are not solutions but problems themselves. On the other hand, Josiah wanted to honor and glorify God with all of his heart, mind and soul. There are three signs which tell us that we are going in the right direction. The first is the mileage sign which tells us how far we need to go to reach our final Amnon, Josiah’s father was so evil that he had led the people astray for the two year that he was in charge by having them served idol gods. President-Elect Obama knows that he has got a long way to go to give people equal health care, education, jobs and a new lease on life. The second sign which tells us that we are going in the right direction is the exit sign which tells us when to get off the interstate. Amnon, had come to the point that he only cared about whom he was and what he wanted. Over and over, the people needs were neglected because King Amnon did not have a clue as to the purpose or will of God for Israel. President Bush for eight years has been making decisions that have not helped the masses but the special interest groups and the upper class. President Bush has not prayed for God’s direction in dealing with other countries and in the decisions that affect the lives of our men and women in the military. The economy has reached rock bottom, people are losing their homes and jobs but President Bush is adamant about having it his way. In the words of President-Elect Obama “He just doesn’t get it, he doesn’t see the signs”. The third sign which tells us we are going in the right direction are the attraction signs that welcome us to the city. In the book of Micah 6: 8 it says “what does the Lord requires but to do just, love mercy and walk humbly with thy God”. Even though Josiah was young, he had the true fruits of the Spirit, love, peace, joy, patience and long suffering. President-Elect Obama will have to show President Bush how to treat everyone not just the rich or elite but everyone. President-Elect Obama realizes that this nation can be great but Christian values such as love, honesty, truth and caring must become residents of the White House on Inauguration Day.
